Parce que je vis près du pôle Arctique, l’Antarctique est le bout du monde pour moi. C’est aussi le sixième continent, celui qui était souvent oublié sur les cartes et leçons géographiques. Mon séjour sur ce continent blanc a laissé une profonde impression sur moi et ma pratique artistique. Sur ce territoire où le climat est loi, je me sentais comme une fourmi dans cette immensité et j'ai fais l’expérience d’un silence particulier, plus pur que partout ailleurs. Sur ce continent blanc, la nature sauvage et spectaculaire reste cependant sensible au reste de la planète et on peut y constater les effets des activités humaines même si elles se passent ailleurs sur la Terre. Because I live near the Arctic Pole, Antarctica is the end of the world for me. It is also the sixth continent, the one that was often forgotten on maps and in geography lessons. My stay on this white continent left a deep impression on me and my artistic practice. In this territory where the climate reigns supreme, I felt like an ant in this immensity and experienced a particular silence, purer than anywhere else. On this white continent, however, the wild and spectacular nature remains sensitive to the rest of the planet, and we can see the effects of human activities even if they take place elsewhere on Earth. Our planet is very small after all...
Quelques photos du séjour et quelques photos d’oeuvres inspirées de ce séjour. Ces oeuvres ont été présentées en Argentine, à Cuba, au Mexique, au Royaume Uni, au Canada, en Grèce et en Espagne. C’est depuis cette expérience en Antarctique que je travaille avec les parapluies. Pour moi cet objet représente la protection contre le la pluie, la neige, le vent et le soleil.
Some photos from the trip and some photos of works inspired by it. These works have been exhibited in Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Canada, Greece, and Spain. It was after this experience in Antarctica that I began working with umbrellas. For me, this object represents protection from rain, snow, wind, and sun.
